Thread: Wingspan:: Rules:: End of turn + end of round: bird deck behavior

by edaguilar

Hi all,

If it is the end of the turn of a player, who happened to draw bird card(s), and it is also the end of the round, what should be done with the bird deck?

Based on the rulebook, the end of the turn of a player, who drew bird card(s), should trigger a refill on the empty spaces on the bird tray. But it being also the end of the round, means that the cards being used to refill need to be immdiately discarded and a full replenishments should happen. The cards being used to do the refill are then never really available. Is this correct?

Thanks in advance!

In the deck of 50 cards I found
[o]A new song - The Hope Eater[/o]

Once I've successfully used the action on that card, it gave me a green hand card 809 with the same name.

Card Text
[o]During the Result step of an action you are involved in, randomly take 2 cards from the discard pile per revealed robot card and shuffle them back into the Action Deck. Then, another random involved character takes a 750 card.

If more than one robot card was revealed, discard this[/o]

Question is, if I'm playing solo, can I just ignore the negative part, as I've no companions to be affected by it, or does it just hit me instead?

Oh God... Please no. The filing system is what it is, but a binder is just more difficult filing... you have the find the right page and then pull out the cards from a binder pocket and then find the one you need... WAY Worse in my opinion.

Perhaps there could be more centralization of the cards so that when you access some area of the board, the 50-100 cards you might encounter can all be in the same area so you have less looking for cards to do, but that is somewhat at odds with all of the clever ways they have you checking for numbers as solutions to puzzles.

I guess it's personal preference. I disagree but I understand where you're coming from. For instance, for me, putting cards back would be much easier with a book. Instead of having to dig through sets of 50-100+ cards per section, I would be able to find the small section of 10 and quickly sow the cards back in. I wouldn't have to physically handle so many cards to find the right spot either. Less wear and tear over time.

But aren't we just quibbling about how often the dividers should be there? Everything you're saying is a problem would be solved by just putting dividers in the existing box more frequently. And it wouldn't create a number of the problems your approach would.

100% agree. For me the issue is not small groups of cards, the issue is pulling cards out of a plastic binder pocket and putting them back in afterward. The card catalog system in the current game is very quick and easy for me. Yes, you do end up flicking through a lot of cards you didn't need for the current request, but the payoff in terms of time and aggravation saved is well worth it in my opinion.

As I mentioned above, one possible way to reduce some of the card hunting would be to separate chunks of cards for a given segment of the game a little more... so if you were to say climb up into a tree house, all the cards involved with that treehouse are between {300} and {350} and you could just pull those cards out together to make it easier to find / replace any given card. It would kind of mimic a load screen in a video game.. you need to get all the game information for that given area together and then the game can continue.

Again, I don't have any issues with the current system, just trying to help suggest other ways to reduce the hunting and sorting.

Another clearly states it‘s not you.
This would also be the case in a multiplayer game where you decide to do an action alone

Also... I think there is something to be said for the benefits of familiarity with the static cards and strategies with SG. Even for casual players.

With the variable setup for SGP, each new configuration the players are starting from scratch in some respects. This can be a positive for leveling the playing field, but also a negative for exploring the game more deeply with replays.

I'll give my views on some questions. I don't mean to know the truth, rather how I'd play myself.

1) I'd say yes correct
3) I'd say after activation, for me "resolved" means the physical action is over
6) I'd say reveal to view, then put it back face-down
8) I assume the same

Agree. Better organization of the cards themselves to reduce the amount of time I'm spending sowing cards individually back in between numbers would absolutely reduce my frustration. if I could just sort the cards and return a pack of them en masse, I wouldn't care nearly as much. But the fact that I have to return, for example, 011, 013, 016, 019, 22, 24 and 29... is just a pain in the ass. I'd much rather just return 011-016 in one block.

My gripe is probably stemming from this more than the index card vs. book method.

Right, so if there are no interactions with the newly revealed cards, you might as well not reveal them at all at the end of the round (as you discard all cards in the tray at the end of the round).

I dropped them a mail and sent a couple of pics. They had responded within minutes and are sending a replacement deck. What awesome customer service!

I would say that's what happens. End of turn, refill the market. Then because it's the end of the round, also refresh the market. I don't see any rules that indicate that you don't refill at the end of the turn just because it's also the end of the round.

Of course, you could simply just refresh the whole market in one hit. It would have a small impact on the cards available, but IMO not that significant given the size of the deck.

Mine is stuck in either Best (Chronopost site) or Oirschot (DPD site) since last Thursday

DPD just told me by text message that it will be delivered tomorrow.

And ... I got it. Well packaged and as far as I could see complete and in the correct language. Happy!

Take a look at the ruling on Wild Wormhole. Basically, if a card would cause you to play a card with Alpha, it wouldn't happen and the card would go back to wherever it came from (top of deck, etc). If the card has Omega, it would end your turn.

Mimicry is different when it comes to Alpha because Mimicry is played as if it were that card. If Mimicry was the first thing you did that turn (no other cards played or used yet), Alpha would still be valid.

I don't think you can play alpha cards, although I'm not sure what happens to them. Presumably they just stay whereever they were.

Omega would definitely end your turn.

And it hasn't moved in a day and a half now. Still in Oirschot. :(

The email was from serious poulp, BTW. It just mentioned The Chronopost delivery.

Got a text message from DPD today that they will deliver the package tomorrow. Finally it is moving again!

Got it delivered today! Everything OK as it looks now. Largest game delivery I ever got. The packaging box was huge.

Quick question, does the printed knowledge, manipulation and strength icons count towards the attack value? Rules indicate that they do but doesn't that result in being able to defeat most of level one without prepared tactics?

I pre-ordered on gamenerdz.com based on the note that this would be released on May 30th thinking that it would be here in time for a scheduled game night on June 14th. The order also includes some other games of course to get free shipping. Hearing that the date is now June 20th is discouraging.

I think the people getting discouraged in this thread need to remember that logistics can be a difficult field. There was no promise the game would be released at a certain time. There was no obligation. Ultimately it is a hobby and while I love the base game and am looking for to getting the expansion I’ve kept that in mind. If you need something to play for game night there is always Cyclades or Kemet.

Sorry, but when a game publisher publicly posts a release date and doesn’t preface it by saying “this is tentative and subject to change” MANY people would assume that’s the date it will be available

I guess I’m just stupid then, because I believed them, even when they kept pushing the date back again and again and again and again.

Yes, logistics can be difficult. But PR is not. A company shouldn’t make public statements unless they are based on SOMETHING. Otherwise, you just risk pissing customers off. There’s really no excuse for a game company that has released numerous games. These are easily avoided, novice mistakes.

And sure, I can just play the base game in the mean time... but I was really looking forward to this expansion. Now? The hype has been killed, my mood has been soured, and I’m not nearly as interested.

Sure, I’ll probably still buy it. But I’m not impressed, especially when I compare this release to something like the Scythe modular board expansion, which has a smooth and perfect rollout.

Oh well, not all companies care as much as Stonemaier games.

Ah yes Stonemaier is ALWAYS perfect and has NEVER botched a release with people waiting months for pre-orders that can't be fulfilled because there aren't enough games. Fact is mistakes happen and in a small industry like this with which also needs to ship their products around the world dates often slip. On top of that Stonemaier follows a different model of not telling the consumers about the game until it is practically shipped to the distributor so you never see the date slips. Matagot is trying to be more transparent and let's their fans know what's coming down the pike well ahead of time.
