I love the approach that we can pick and choose which packs to play as we progress. That will add some strategic depth dependant on what investigators you are playing with.

So we know who the Mystic gator is, any ideas on who else is likely to appear?

My 2 pence:

Gloria Goldberg (seeker)

Patrice Hathaway (Survivor)

Wilson Richards (Rogue)

Either Trish Scarborough or Tony Morgan (Guardian)

Gloria Goldberg is a pretty safe bet, I mean it really wouldn't make any sense for her to not be in this cycle, considering her background. Though I don't know if we can be sure she'll be a seeker.

One thing to consider is that of all the possible combinations of the core template, we still miss a seeker\rogue and a rogue\seeker. I think there's a good chance we're going to get one of them this time around, and that could give us a clue about the investigator for either of those roles.

I mean, I would have bet on Seeker/ROgue or Rogue/Seeker for Joe Diamond before knowing he turned out to be a guardian. Tony Morgan might be in this one (he was spotted on some art) and he could be a Rogue/Seeker, though given that handcuffs are guardian, as are most cards to hunt specific things, he's probably going to be something like Guardian/Rogue or something more complicated.

Rogue/Seeker with access to police cards.
Trish would make a great Seeker/Rogue

Hard pass. Put me in the camp of not wanting to spend stretch goals on adding color. I'd rather see that money be spent producing more content for the game, i.e. more decks of cards. I also think adding more content is going to get more backers on board than adding colors will (see the multiple threads asking for more heroes/quests/enemies). The base rings work perfectly fine for telling the enemies apart, any color beyond those is purely aesthetic.

Of course it's aesthetic. That's exactly the point. Aren't the minis all about aesthetics in the first place? Otherwise, why have them over standees (which I'm not in favor of for this game, to be clear).

They already announced one of their minis will be translucent blue in an update. So why aren't the painters griping about that character being "hard to paint"?

And I certainly wasn't asking for something that expensive for every piece, or that bold. As the last poster said, some mild differences between certain classes of minis would be fine (a couple different tones of darker grey and maybe sand for example). I don't see how that would be a huge increase in price.

Because you won't paint that figure. It is a ghost.

Thread: The 7th Continent:: Rules:: Exploration cards - define "resolve" for permanent events

I've been playing 7th Continent since last July, and I've gone back and forth on the subject of what constitutes "resolving an exploration card" (p18 of the English rules) when the exploration cards is a permanent event.

Is an exploration card "resolved" (and thus discarded and replaced with the terrain card) when:
A) An action on the permanent event is seen to a resolution (positive or negative)?
B) A consequence of the action on the event instructs you to discard the permanent event?

Furthermore, if you fail an action for which there is no consequence for failure, would that count as "resolving" the event?

The thread here says that permanent events are resolved when they tell you to discard them, but I'm not sure I agree because it is inconsistent with how we resolve temporary events.

On page 18 of the rulebook it states that
if it is a permanent event, it remains in play (making it impossible to discover the terrain it hides) until it is resolved and discarded.

And on page 11 we have the bold heading (emphasis mine)
an action is resolved by the following sequence

For temporary events, they never say to explicitly discard them. (see sample Temporary event on page 4 of the rulebook for an example, or Wild Boar from the hunt results). The rulebook also does not explicitly say that resolving an action on a temporary event resolves the temporary event. The logical interpretation is that resolving an action on the temporary event resolves the card.

I know I am overthinking it, but that's inconsistent with the accepted practice for a permanent event exploration card (continue taking the action until discarded. Especially when some permanent events have multiple actions with some indicating to discard the card, and some not explicitly indicating it (Hollow Tree and Stream are examples of this).

Big Congrats to 'Ruthless' (and Alleycat games) on winning Best Strategic Card game at UKEXPO last weekend. It won the judges vote.

Alleycat's game 'Dice Hospital' also won Best Dice game in both the peoples and the judges votes, so a good weekend for the company.

I will second that sentiment. Plus, it's a great way to ease yourself into the game without spending much money. You start with a small selection of decent decks, which unlock more as you get through the initial play, and there are many ways to get free booster packs and cards if you play enough - completing the Daily quests will give you enough gold to get a new booster every other day, and they regularly have a Ranked Draft that you can pay gold to play in which gets you three packs of Uncommons/Rares/Mythics for the set it's related to; if you consistently win, you get a free booster from the current set at 5, 10, and 15 wins each week, and about 1 every 5 wins you get each day will get you a free random card to add to your collection, along with a diminishing return on Gold for each win (IIRC, 250, 100, 50, Card). Plus, the matchmaking seems to be pretty decent, though it does seem to weigh a bit more on the higher end than the lower from my personal experience.

If I understand correctly, the main difference between 'Discard' and 'Destroy' is that while both cards are placed in the discard pile, discarded cards are eligible for returning to deck (for example, using the 'Crypt' card), while destroyed cards are only returned to the deck when the discard pile is reshuffled. That is why destroyed cards are placed sideways at the bottom in the discard pile, while discarded cards are not.

Please correct me, if I'm mistaken!

Is there a recommended order to playing the curses. Would you recommend playing the lesser fun ones first as to finish on a high note?

Thanks,

Google your questions and 9 times out of 10, you will find multiple threads on the topic.

I would say yes. They are required to place your worker on the event, but after you do so, as part of the event resolution you could choose to discard them.

The case with the Ranger is because attempting to move him to the second Dungeon cell simultaneously makes that cell unavailable, so it creates this 'error'.

It's also un-thematic, but you could argue the same of the Croak Wart event, I suppose.

3rd, as I mentioned before I find grey best for painting, coloured plastic can discolour the undercoats/shows through more and thus needing heavier, more obstructing coats.

I've never had a primer not completely obscure whatever color the mini is. Red minus, blue minis, purple minis, brown minis, gray minis - they all turn out the color of the primer. And, I've used multiple brands including cheaper auto primers.

I've seen plenty of hard, colored-plastic minis. So, coloring the plastic should have no impact on the quality. And, the used colored plastic for the cop cars in Brook City. So, if there same production company is used, colored minis would be an option. It might cost more though.

The issue isn't whether it can be covered, but whether you have to use additional paint to fully cover a darker figure, hence obscuring details on the model with the thicker coat.

The problem with some backers saying that they think stretch goals should be content, not colored minis, are missing that everyone has a different idea of content, anyways. Not everyone agrees no matter what. Read the Kickstarter comments. Some say more cards, some say more features, some say more altars specifically. Some want more boards. Some want more dice. Everybody wants something different. In the end, it's all about making the game more fun to play. And for some, colored mins would do that.

No matter what, not everyone will love every stretch goal. Some hate the colored dice. Some like them. Some hate the horseman hero. Some like it. Those were stretch goals. So just because some may not want colored minis to be a stretch goal doesn't mean it shouldn't at least be considered.

Some will appreciate it, some won't. Like every stretch goal.

There's plenty of stretch goals for everyone. I count a ton already and there's many more coming I'm sure. If they are even toying with the idea of colored minis, I don't see the harm in one stretch goals being put aside for it. It's not like there aren't more coming.

Yes, they have the A New Hope lists there, and I was able to find the Attack of the Clones lists elsewhere.

I'm certain I have all the cards for the Empire Strikes Back starter, I just don't remember what goes in the decks! I even had it typed out once upon a time, but several years ago, I threw the list away, thinking, "Well, I'm never going to play this again." Oops.

I was wondering if you would get the chance to do a basic review comparison between the new system and the old.

Thanks

After the few opinions that you all have given, and after considering the cost, I think that I can easily count out the Upgrade pack. I love the game as it is, and will be getting the Pearlbrook expansion when the Kickstarter is fulfilled. And, no doubt there will be another expansion to follow along soon. I'll save the $39 and put it somewhere more useful. Thanks everyone!
