I would have to agree with Drew on this one, while Invasion is not my favorite LCG, it is a solid game with plenty of options and a deep enough card pool to keep you busy for a while. Here’s why I wouldn’t recommend the other LCGs for you right off the bat:
Call of Cthulhu – a very good game but it suffers from a lack of player base and it is difficult to get new players into it. When I first tried it out I absolutely hated it and ignored it for a good while, I like it very much now but it took a while and had I not been impulsive and dumped a bunch of money into it before I even tried it I likely wouldn’t have tried it again. If you want something even remotely like Magic, this isn’t it. The game is based around obtaining objectives (i.e. Story Cards) and is not a directly confrontational game, in the sense of “I attack you, you attack me”.
A Game of Thrones – While this is my favorite LCG so far, I still wouldn’t recommend it to you right away. In my opinion the game shines in multiplayer, in fact, I dislike 1 on 1 immensely, and I feel you would need a really solid player base for multiplayer. It is an amazing game if you have a good play group though.
Netrunner – Incredible game, easily my favorite 2 player LCG, but its suffering from a lack of card pool right now and I am already bored with the core set. Even when the Data Packs start trickling in, it will be awhile before deck building gets really fun. I had the same problem with Invasion since I started that game when it was first released as well. This is my only gripe with the LCGs. I particularly love deck building and creating cool, unique decks that surprise my opponents and its really difficult to do that with light card pools.
Star Wars – Looks amazing but it is not out yet!
