I know little to nothing about Kickstarter, and have no idea what a "stretch goal" is. But if this reprint is coming from a legitimate game company, why are they doing it this way? What is the benefit to someone who just wants a reprint?
The benefit is to the company. Kickstarter has a reputation for working fabulously well. Steve Jackson got, what, a half million for Ogre? Some webcomic guy was trying for $40,000 to reprint some of his books and ended up an order for $1.25 million worth of product. So, Kickstarter is the "go-to" business method of today.
If you don't care, just wait 12-24 months for the reprint to arrive on store shelves. Kickstarter projects also have a reputation for arriving late, or not at all.
