Last night in a game with five players, I never had access to papyrus. (The only time one passed my hand was in the same hand as with glass, and I chose glass.)It pained me to turn down some cards I had to in Age III.
I also had a military escalation between the person to my left and the person to his left, so I lost that side every turn, and playing just one military in the final age clearly wouldn't have won things for me.
Overall, my score was lower than usual but still hit my targets. Entering the third age I had I think 21 points:
- 2 points from military
- 2 points from coins
- 3 points from wonder stages
- ~9 points from blues (I had the leader that gave money from chaining, so I played blues that I normally would skip in early ages)
- 1 point from tech (a black mask card, copying a neighbor)
- 4 points from leaders (2 per grey resource)
Like I said, not every Age III hand was optimal; I played the last one as military as a risk reducer due to my non-agressive neighbor pulling diplomacy, so I earned zero points on that card. My second tech was my third age leader. The player to my right's wonders let her copy my final stage.
End scores were:
G A L M Me
Military 15 7 -2 -4 6
Coin/Debt 2 2 3 3 1
Wonder 5 10 12 19 17
Monuments 6 17 9 0 22
Commerce 2 0 3 0 7
Guilds 12 4 0 8 0
Tech 0 1 26 16 10
Lead/Black 0 2 10 23 4
------------------------------
Totals 42 43 61 65 67
I made 46 points with seven cards played in the final age, so I just barely made my model score.
